Digital Mental Health

Digital health is the blending of mobile health and health information technology with genetic, biological, social, and behavioral science. Our research focuses on digital mental health that encompasses mobile health (mHealth), health information technology, telehealth, and wearable devices. How will advanced technology impact mental health care and research on technology-enabled mental health services?

Challenges & Opportunities

We are interested in how technology and digital tools can be used to support and enhance mental health and well-being. Despite the growing popularity of these tools, clinical research outcomes on digital mental health have been weak due to several challenges, such as limited evidence on their effectiveness, lack of standardized protocols, the limited capacity of existing digital tools to address complex mental health conditions, and concerns around privacy and security. Despite these challenges, the future of digital mental health is promising as technology continues to advance, and researchers work to address the limitations of current digital tools. As digital mental health becomes more widely adopted, it is expected to play a more prominent role in improving access to care and reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.
